Learn more about Highland Yoga's story and meet our leadership team.
Founded in 2015
Highland Yoga was founded in 2015 by duo Elsie Brotherton and John Irvin. Since opening its first location in Atlanta's Virginia Highland neighborhood, Highland Yoga has since grown to 9 studios around Georgia in Atlanta, Alpharetta, and Athens.

Highland Yoga classes are transformational. They are designed to empower students to connect with their most authentic selves and with others in genuine ways, creating a community that feels like family and a place that feels like home. Real Yoga. Real Community. [Real Sweaty.]

Elsie Brotherton, CEO
Elsie discovered yoga in 2010 when searching for tools to cope with stress and anxiety during law school. In 2013, after having settled into her career as an attorney, Elsie completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and soon realized that she felt called to share her passion for yoga with others. The dream of Highland Yoga was born, and in 2015 Elsie took the leap from practicing attorney to full time yoga teacher and studio owner.

Elsie is the founder and CEO of Highland Yoga. Prior to taking to the mat full time, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Musicology from Oberlin Conservatory and her J.D. from Emory University School of Law. Elsie believes there is no wasted life experience, and she infuses the discipline and passion that she developed through classical music studies and law school into her business every single day.
In addition to her work with Highland Yoga, Elsie is the founder of Training Collective, a personal training gym in Inman Park, Atlanta, as well as a seasoned real estate agent and classically trained pianist.
When she's not teaching yoga, Elsie enjoys hanging out at home with her daughter Billie and husband Bree in Atlanta's Virginia Highland neighborhood. You can learn more about Elsie at elsiebrotherton.com.
